It's been quite a while since we last heard about Microsoft's attempts at a mobile version of Office, dating back to last February when the application was supposedly handled and reviewed. However, thanks to a report by The Verge, the app seems to be live and well and will be making its way to devices in the near future.
According to the website's sources, a mobile version of Microsoft Office will be coming to the iOS and Android stratospheres starting in early 2013. The app will first be available for iPhone and iPad in February while the Android version will lag behind till March of 2013.
In addition, and much to our surprise, the application will be free to download and only requires a Microsoft account to access basic viewing functionalities. Of course, the big money will be made through the editing and creating abilities and those can be unlocked via an Office 365 subscription, which starts at $4 a month. The app will also include support for Word, Powerpoint and Excel and should make for an appealing option for users on the go.
