Microsoft: More than 20,000 apps in the Windows 8 store

Teaser
Windows 8 store crosses 20,000 app mark, with more than 18,000 of them being available free

Windows 8 officially launched around a month ago and their store is adding apps like they're going out of style. According to Win App Update, around 7,000 apps were added over the past two weeks, causing the store to cross the 20k threshold.

With over 18,000 free apps, the Windows 8 Store is well on its way to attracting budget customers, but it still has a ways to catch up with Apple and Google. Both stores feature over 700,00 apps, but for a closer comparison, the Mac Store only has around 12,000.

Although Windows 8 has taken the market by storm, finding its way to tablets and laptops alike, its numbers have been considered a disappointment by some analysts. Of course, the latest numbers can only be seen as encouraging for Microsoft, and we'll have to see if they manage to impact sales positively.
