Micromax IN 1A appears on Geekbench with 4GB of RAM and a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC
Earlier this year, we reported that Micromax was slated to make a comeback sometime in October with up to three new devices. The smartphone maker has since hinted at its return to the market several times. We now have a teaser from the company's head honcho that confirms the earlier report.
Some details about Micromax's new line of 'IN' smartphones have appeared online thanks to Twitter leaker Abhishek Yadav, who spotted one of the devices on Geekbench 4.4. The Micromax IN 1a seems to be running a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC coupled with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. Despite being over two years old, the chip continues to find itself in a host of low-cost Android phones. Its single and multi-core scores are 903 and 4,326, respectively, so it's best to dial down our expectations from the device. At the very least, you get 4GB of RAM and Android 10 out of the box, which is something one could not take for granted with earlier Micromax devices.
Earlier rumors told us that the MediaTek Helio G25 or Helio G35 would be featured on at least one new Micromax smartphone, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Micromax has always focused on the low-cost segment of the market. Its devices are billed to compete against Xiaomi, Realme, Honor, and the likes. Micromax has also been notorious for abysmal after-sales and software support for their devices. Both factors combined make regaining market share in India's hypercompetitive low-cost smartphone market a daunting task for Micromax.
