Last pre-release version of Windows 10 Mobile now available
Build 10586.11 for Windows 10 Mobile is expected to be the final pre-release version of the OS for subscribers in the "Fast Ring" Microsoft Insider program. These users are expected to find more bugs in the build as there have been numerous fixes during the last build according to the source.
Existing issues include Silverlight applications not behaving or transferring correctly to the new OS. Users should think twice before signing up for the Insider program as Microsoft does not guarantee steady performance. Furthermore, subscribers must also agree to send usage information to Microsoft for as long as the pre-release build is running.
Here at Notebookcheck, one of our authors have the pre-release version of Windows 10 Mobile for the Lumia 1320 smartphone. First impressions are that the current build works well after a few preference changes to overcome some initial bugs. The design of Windows 10 Mobile is brighter and much more pleasing than Windows 8.1 Mobile. Transparent tiles, redesigned pre-installed Windows Phone apps, and customizeable backgrounds add to the improved design language. It is also noteworthy that the new Edge browser runs much faster than the previous Internet Explorer. There is improved integration for email and social media accounts and the app lists are presented in a more organized fashion. Nonetheless, this is a Windows Phone after all, so third-party applications and support are far below what Android and iOS currently offer.
The app problem, however, may be remedied if Microsoft can successfully port iOS and Android apps to run natively on Windows 10 Mobile. Running programs designed for Windows PCs is also being considered for future high-end smartphones. The Lumia 950 and 950 XL are shipping with the same Windows 10 Mobile Build 10586 pre-release build but with a bit more fine-tuning.
