Gaming Factory has turned a planned JDM: Japanese Drift Master expansion into a full standalone game, announcing JDM: Ph4ntom Driver for PC. The new title swaps traditional street racing for supernatural action, combining arcade-style drifting, vehicular combat, and demons inspired by Japanese folklore.

Revealed during IGN Fall Fan Fest on October 14, the game takes players back to Guntama, the fictional Japanese region featured in the original JDM (Japanese Drift Master). This time, however, the familiar roads have been transformed into a supernatural playground, completed with creatures that probably won't respect traffic regulations.

Players will encounter enemies ranging from Oni and tree spirits to enormous centipedes, with a Demon King waiting somewhere down the road. Survival involves considerably more than keeping both hands on the steering wheel. The developers promise more accessible, arcade-style handling, alongside a new mechanic called Nitro-Drift, which rewards drifting with speed boosts. Vehicle upgrades and supernatural abilities should provide additional ways to deal with the local wildlife.

The redesigned open world will also feature a single-player campaign told through hand-drawn manga sequences and dialogue. Multiplayer is planned, although the developers have yet to reveal how it will work.

Gaming Factory's JDM: Ph4ntom Driver is being developed for PC and already has a Steam page, but no release date has been announced. One thing is certain: speeding tickets are the least of your worries when a giant demon is waiting around the next corner.
