Intel tweets a screenshot showcasing an Alder Lake CPU with a 5.5 GHz boost clock
Intel has teased a new 16-core Alder Lake CPU on Twitter with a boost clock of 5.5 GHz. Among the current crop of 12th gen Intel chips, the Core i9-12900K has the highest boost clock of up to 5.2 GHz on some workloads. While the number is impressive, the company is aiming to produce a chip with a 5.5 GHz all-core boost clock. We can see from the tweet that Intel has only managed to achieve 5.5 GHz turbo frequency on only one P-core. The rest of the P-cores are running on 5.2 GHz, with E-cores running at a much lower 4 GHz. So, there is still some work to be done before Alder Lake can hit the famed 5.5 GHz mark.
Now the question is, what CPU is Intel pointing to here?
All rumors and leaks point towards the upcoming Intel Core i9-12900KS. We’ve previously reported that Team Blue was planning to release the Core i9-12900KS with a 5 GHz all-core boost frequency. If the recent tweet from the company is indeed referring to the Core i9-12900KS, then the previous leaks speaking about a 200 MHz increase to turbo frequency fell a bit short.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait to find out more about the Core i9-12900KS as the chip is expected to break cover in the first quarter of this year.
