Hyundai Ioniq 5 N smokes performance SUVs from AMG, Lamborghini, and Rolls Royce in epic drag race
Since it launched, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has impressed with its performance both in a straight line and on the track. It has even gone so far as to claim a 7:45 lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, beating out even the Porsche 911 GT2. Now, thanks to the CarExpert YouTube channel, the Ioniq 5 N has gone up against some of the most formidable and expensive ICE luxury performance SUVs on the planet in both a drag race and a roll race.

The performance SUVs competing against the humble Hyundai Ioniq 5 N are a Rolls-Royce Cullinan Masonry, a Merceded-Benz AMG G63 Brabus, and a Lamborghini Urus, all of which cost well over the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N's $66,100 starting price.
Car Model | Horsepower (hp) | Torque (Nm) |
---|---|---|
AWD Rolls-Royce Cullinan | 591 hp | 900 Nm |
Merceded-Benz AMG G63 Brabus | 577 hp | 850 Nm |
Lamborghini Urus | 657 hp | 850 Nm |
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N | 641 hp | 770 Nm |
After determining that the Lamborghini was the fastest among the internal combustion cars in both the roll and drag race, it faced off against the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and the Ioniq 5 N put up a rather impressive show. While CarExpert did not provide drag times or speeds, it's clear within the first seconds of the drag race that the Ioniq 5 N was not going to be overtaken by the Urus. The team was so surprised by the result that they couldn't resist doing a second race. To make things interesting, CarExpert disabled launch control on the Ioniq 5 N during the second drag race, making both performance SUVs more limited by grip. Sure enough, the Ioniq 5 N pulled away from the Lamborghini Urus in a heartbeat, once again.
Where things usually get exciting with EV vs ICE car races, though, is when it comes to roll races, whereby both cars start the race at the same speed — usually in second gear for the ICE car. Because of immediate, high torque and linear, uninterrupted power delivery, EVs typically accelerate faster than ICE cars, but when it comes to top speed, performance-focussed ICE cars often perform better than EVs, with higher top speeds and quicker late-race acceleration. However, in this case, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N still had quite a substantial lead over the Lamborghini Urus right from the start of the race.
In the end, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N pulls away from the Lamborghini Urus in all the races, making it the fastest car of the lot, despite the massive price differences between the Ioniq 5 N and the other cars in the test.
