HP could have a 7" tablet planned for this August

Teaser
Company may have placed orders for 7” tablet through Taiwanese manufacturer

When HP went out and registered 6 TouchPad trademarks earlier this month, we didn’t think much about the numerous filings. However, the latest word out of Taiwan might mean that those trademarks were more than just random bookings, and could point to an actual product coming soon from HP.

According to the Taiwan Economic News, Hewlett Packard has placed an order for between 400,000 to 450,000 tablets with Taiwanese parts manufacturer Inventec. A subcontractor for the company is apparently responsible for providing the info, and mentioned that the order will be comprised of the 9.7” TouchPad which launches on July 1st , along with a new 7" offering that should arrive sometime in August.  Furthermore, it looks like Inventec’s order will end up equaling a total of  3 million tablets shipped to HP by the end of 2011.

Of the 6 trademarks filed by HP, one was for a TouchPad7, and the latest report adds more fuel to its flame of existence. Of course we’re still going to have to see what happens with HP’s 1st TouchPad and its webOS environment, but a 7” version could be a welcome addition to the market.
