HP 7 G2 and HP 8 G2 go on sale
The two new Android KitKat tablets revealed last month by Hewlett Packard in France are now available in the US via Amazon. The HP 7 G2 and HP 8 G2 are both powered by Allwinner A33 chips and GMS certified. The A33 SoC was announced in June 2014 and integrates four Cortex-A7 cores and Mali-400 MP2 graphics.
HP 7 G2 and HP 8 G2 have about the same specs that were recently spotted on the French HP website:
- Processor: 1.2 GHz Allwinner A33 quad-core
- Memory/Storage: 1 GB RAM; 8 GB internal storage (7 G2) or 16 GB (8 G2), microSD support up to 32 GB
- Display: 7-inch with 1,280X720 pixels or 7.85-inch with 1,024X768 pixels, both LED-backlit IPS
- Cameras: 0.3 MP front, 2 MP back
- Connectivity: WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 LE combo, GPS, micro USB 2.0
- Operating system: Android 4.4.2 KitKat
- Weight/Dimensions: 0.55 pounds or 0.71 ounces; 7.4X4X0.34 inches or 7.95X5.4X0.31 inches
These slates are loaded with HP's own Connected Photo app, as well as the Google app suite which consists of Gmail, Google+, Google Maps, Google Play Store, Google Talk, Google Sync, Google Chrome and Google Street View. HP 7 G2 and HP 8 G2 also ship pre-loaded with Skype, YouTube and Adobe Reader.
Amazon has the 7 G2 ready to ship for $116.33 USD with free shipping, while the larger 8 G2 has a price of $149.99 USD and comes with free shipping as well, but ships "within 3 to 5 weeks."
