The 2012 CeBIT show has officially kicked off today and innovative products started emerging. Reportedly, the Taiwanese PC hardware manufacturer Gigabyte has just introduced three new portable computers: the U2442 ultrabook, the P2542G gaming notebook and the Q2542N mainstream laptop

Gigabyte also issued a press release claiming their latest ultrabook will be available in two versions, both sporting the same “bold, striking design”. The U2442N supposedly weighs 1.49kg (3.29lbs) and has a thickness of 18.5mm-20.5mm. Furthermore, it comes equipped with an illuminated keyboard, a latest generation Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5/i7 central processing unit and a 14-inch widescreen display that has a native resolution of 1600-by-900 pixels

The lightweight device presumably houses a rotating HDD with a storage capacity of up to 750GB (there is also an SSD option) and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M GPU which offers 2GB of dedicated VRAM. Connectivity features include USB 3.0Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and an optional Thunderbolt port. The second version is called U2442V. It delivers the same specs apart from the processor (ULV).

Next in line is the high-performance P2542G laptop aimed at gamers. According to the company, this model will be powered by an Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7 chip that has four processing cores. In addition, it packs a 15.6-inch LED backlit display that has a maximum supported resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels (Full HD), a Blu-ray optical drive and a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics card with 2GB of video memory.

Users will also be provided with two USB 3.0 ports, an SSD (or a 750GB 7200RPM HDD), an HDMI output and THX TruStudio Pro audio accompanied by four dual-channel stereo speakers, and two woofer speakers.

And last but not least, the Q2542N will also feature a third generation Ivy Bridge CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M video card. Gigabyte claims this mainstream notebook is “fashionably designed with an attractive rippling pattern” and will sport two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and an 8-cell Lithium-Ion battery.

The maker hasn’t disclosed pricing details on any of the above yet.
