The Japanese aims to ship 10 million laptops by next year, looks like a tough task

Fujitsu aims to ship a massive 10 million notebooks by the year 2012 – a news piece on Digitimes says. The Japanese electronics giant, although coming out with a few good models in recent times – not being able to clinch a significant market share in the notebook sector. Fulfilling this aim will go a long way in ensuring that share.

Note that the company shipped only 1.7million notebooks in the first half of 2011, so the aim of achieving the 10 million targets looks quite tough at this moment, unless Fujitsu has something really special up their sleeves. The sales performance in their third quarter was good, which should help a bit.

One part of the plan is to outsource more and more production. Quanta Computers is already an ODM, but Fujitsu plans to add Wistron to that list – although Wistron has not confirmed yet.
