The good: Conservative (yet not boring) design; strong application performance; useful set of ports and connections. The bad: Display is not wide-screen; short battery life. The bottom line: Fujitsu's business-oriented thin-and-light LifeBook S2210 offers plenty of features and strong performance, but its standard-aspect display isn't for everyone. Worse, its battery life fell below our expectations.

Fujitsu Siemens may not be the first company you think of when deciding on an ultraportable notebook but in recent months, the company has stepped up its game and released a number of interesting machines. The styling of the S2110 plays into the sombre black and grey of most Fujitsu Siemens machines but with an overall weight of 1.9kg, it’s light enough to carry with you without being a burden. With a powerful processor and a great battery life, this is a lightweight notebook at a great price. There are a couple of tricks missing with this notebook, such as the low-resolution screen and entry-level graphics, which stop it just short of a Hot Product rating. However, in every other respect this is a powerful and highly portable notebook, which we found a pleasure to use.

The key feature of the Fujitsu-Siemens LifeBook S2110 is the AMD Turion processor, because this is the first professional Fujitsu-Siemens laptop to use AMD hardware. That may sound like a significant breakthrough for AMD, but the Amilo A series has used Turion for some time now, and you could buy an S2110 under the Fujitsu brand in the US before Christmas, but all good things come to those who wait. A professional laptop is all about mobile working so the 1.9kg weight is important, as it makes the S2110 highly portable.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.Fujitsu-Siemens: Fujitsu, founded 1935, is a Japanese company specializing in semiconductors, air conditioners, computers (supercomputers, personal computers, servers), telecommunications, and services, and is headquartered in Tokyo. Fujitsu employs around 160,000 people and has 500 subsidiary companies. The partnership with Siemens AG was established in 1999 in the form of Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC), one of Europe's largest IT hardware suppliers, and owned 50/50 by Fujitsu and Siemens. 2009, this cooperation was terminated, FSC ended to exist. In future, no laptops will be sold with the brand "Fujitsu-Siemens" but only "Fujitsu".
77.83%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
