Fossil Group is planning to launch over 300 new smartwatches this year, across 14 of their brands. Their new line of devices will be offered in slim, hybrid style and full-round, touchscreen style. Along with the watches, Fossil is also releasing a line of micro-apps for their touchscreen devices to further differentiate and brand them. With this new portfolio, Fossil claims they've reinvented the watch. Here's a quick rundown of them:
- Hybrid Smartwatches: This line will feature slim, sport style watches designed for activity tracking and notifications. They won't have a touchscreen, but will instead rely on programmable push buttons like those on traditional watches. A specific OS wasn't mentioned, so it's safe to assume they will run custom-designed Fossil software.
- Touchscreen Smartwatches: This line will offer more traditionally styled smartwatches with increased functionality over the hybrid devices. These watches will feature Android Wear 2.0, Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 processors, and full-AMOLED displays. Fossil claims the AMOLED screens will be "one-of-a-kind", but didn't go into further detail. Fast, wireless charging is also included.
Pricing hasn't been mentioned yet, but release dates across the individual brands range from this Summer through the end of the year. Including these new devices, Fossil's smartwatch portfolio will contain over 450 devices by year-end.
