The Dell Streak was a runaway success when it was first launched, even in its locked format. And now, it looks like that the success of the unlocked version of the Dell Streak has now prompted its makers to make it an even better proposition in the market. Dell has already begun rolling out the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update to existing Dell Streak users whose devices came pre-installed with the 2.1 version. And now, Dell has started to ship a fresh stock of unlocked Streaks with Froyo pre-installed. Apparently, Dell was waiting to exhaust its existing stock of the Android 2.1-based Streaks before shipping out the updated ones.
What’s also new in this latest development is that a new color, Cherry Red, which was previously unavailable for unlocked units, is now an option along with the existing Carbon Black color. The updated, unlocked Streak with pre-installed Froyo is now shipping for $579.99 for the 16GB model and $678.99 for the 24GB model. Both models are available for purchase from the official Dell website. A Gingerbread (Android 2.3) powered Streak might well be on the cards of Dell, so the party’s not over yet, watch out for it.
