Compal presents BreezePro concept with improved air cooling system for laptops
As one of the more prominent original laptop design manufacturers out there, Compal is constantly pushing for chassis efficiency and system performance improvements. Take for example the concept submitted for the IF Design Award 2022 event, which tries to improve upon existing cooling solutions for laptops. It is called the BreezePro and borrows from existing designs found on dual-screen laptops like the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15, as it moves the coolers from underneath the chassis to the top side close to the keyboard and screen hinges.
Instead of an auto-rising second smaller screen, the BreezePro offers a rising keyboard that tilts upward to reveal a couple of intake vents underneath it. This should allow for better airflow compared to traditional methods relying on coolers that are located underneath the chassis and can essentially block and trap hot air when placing the laptop flush with other supporting surfaces.
The tilted keyboard could also offer a more ergonomic typing position, yet it could introduce some problems, as well. First of all, a rigid slanting keyboard might start to wobble if too much pressure is exerted while typing. Another problem could arise with the dust that accumulates in the gap between the keyboard and the chassis base.
If Compal can solve the aforementioned problems, this concept may eventually become a good alternative for laptop cooling systems that rely on liquid metal or vapor chambers.
