Chinon USA has reportedly released two new low cost Android-running tablets, called Swift 7 and Swift 10. The Kodak-owned tech company is perhaps better known for its camera lenses, but with the introduction of the above mentioned devices, it now gets to compete in one of the hottest markets.
Both Swift models are powered by an ARM Cortex A8 central processing unit that has a core frequency of 1.2GHz. The Swift 7 is equipped with a 7-inch 4:3 capacitive touchscreen display (800-by-600p), whereas the bigger Swift 10 offers a 9.7-inch capacitive 10-point multitouch-enabled IPS (the In-Plane Switching technology delivers improved viewing angles) panel that has a native resolution of 1024-by-768 pixels.
Furthermore, the tablets house 512MB (Swift 7) / 1GB (Swift 10) of internal DDR3 memory and 4GB (Swift 7) / 8GB (Swift 10) storage capacity which can reportedly be expanded up to 32GB by utilizing the built-in microSD card reader slot. Other features include Wireless LAN 802.11 a/b/g/n and optional Bluetooth (available through an external USB modem) adapters, support for Flash 10.1, up to 5 hours of battery life and integrated web cameras for video conferencing (dual camera on the Swift 10 model).
According to the manufacturer, both slates will ship with an Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, but the pre-installed custom UI supposedly looks exactly like that of a Honeycomb OS. Moreover, Chinon USA President Jensen Fong was quoted as saying: “There is no reason why consumers who want to experience the excitement of tablets should be priced out of the market. Chinon’s superior design and the improving Android OS allows our Swift tablets to be priced low without compromising performance”.
The Swift 7 and Swift 10 are now available to customers in the United States and are priced at $159.99 and $279.99, respectively.
