'I believe we can own the future of the automobile market,' said President Biden in a speech during an EV-heavy Detroit auto show. There, he announced the disbursement of the first government subsidy tranche for a nationwide electric vehicle charging infrastructure buildout.

President Biden attended the Detroit auto show to unveil a number of government initiatives that spearhead the transition to electric cars, including subsidies for chargers and battery factories. "The Great American Road Trip will be electrified," Biden said in a wide-ranging speech where he announced the first US$900 million tranche of the government's subsidies for building a nationwide EV charging network.

The President took photos next to a Ford Mustang Mach-E, and tried out an electric Cadillac and Corvette during an auto show with a predominant EV focus:

We're choosing to build a better America, an America that is confronting the climate crisis, with America's workers leading the way... I believe we can own the future of the automobile market. I believe we can own the future of manufacturing. American manufacturing is back. Detroit is back. America's back, and folks, we're proving it's never, ever, ever a good bet to bet against the American people.

The US$1 trillion White House infrastructure bill which Congress voted on last year has a US$7.5 billion component for a cross-country charging network along major highways, in cities, and in rural areas, with a US$4.75 billion portion going directly to the states. President Biden announced that the first US$900 million disbursement to 35 individual states has now been approved and can go to the companies that will be building the new EV charging stalls.

One of these companies is actually Tesla, which was just granted US$6.4 million by the California Energy Commission for rolling out three of the world's biggest Supercharger locations there, one of which will have no less than 164 stalls, presumably with Tesla's CCS-compatible Magic Dock adapters.
