Barnes & Noble is planning to expand the family with a new Tablet called the Nook tablet. According to some leaked documents it will go up for pre-order for $249 on Monday and the ship November 16 – as reported by Liliputing.
The Nook color was launched at the same price point last year, and following Amazon’s strategy of pushing the price down for older models, B & N reduces the price of the Nook Color to $ 199.
The Nook Tablet sports a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel multitouch screen, a TI 1.2 GHz dual-core OMAP 4 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and has a microSD card slot for expansion. It supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n IPS, and is thinner and more streamlined than the Nook Color.
The Nook tablet is $50 cheaper than that of the Amazon Fire, but with the Fire you also get one-month Amazon Prime subscription free that gives you access to Amazon’s huge collection of online media. The Nook will have to depend on third-party developers. The Fire is slower than the Nook Tablet with 1GB dual-core processor and 512MB RAM. Also the Fire does not come with an SD slot.
Barnes & Noble also apparently lowered the price of the fireplace simple eBook reader with touch screen E ink to $ 99. That's the same price as the Amazon Kindle Touch - but to get the Kindle touch for the price you need to put up with ads on the screen saver. The version without advertising costs $ 139.
Barnes & Noble is holding an event to launch the new tablet in New York on Monday.
