70% ASUS X541S review – The perfect tool for a hardworking employee

All in all then the X541S is a low-powered notebook best suited in an office or school environment where not a lot of processing power is needed, and for the price, you’re going to struggle to find something this good.

Asus VivoBook Max X541NA-GQ028T

The Asus VivoBook Max X541NA-GQ028T is your typical mid range laptop with a decent price tag. Asus presented this VivoBook as a genuine equipment monster from the almost forgotten VGA port to HDMI and card reader. In terms of portability, the ASUS VivoBook Max X541NA-GQ028T has a height of 2,76 cm and a payload of 2 kg. Thickness and weight are a compromise in favor of having many ports. The device is considered too chunky for carrying around day-long. The chassis of this model is made of plastic, lacquered in black and champagne. The large 106 mm x 74 mm touchpad features palm rejection technology, which differentiates between the actual fingertip and palm contact to prevent unintentional cursor movement. At a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, the 15.6 display achieves a chessboard contrast of 141: 1 and a maximum brightness of 231 cd/m². The display is matt and achieves a brightness distribution of 94.3 percent, which is good for outdoor usage. The Tru2Life Video technology makes videos look amazing. It intelligently optimizes each pixel in the video frame to increase sharpness and contrast by 150 %. Besides that, most LED panels emit blue light, which is the main cause of macular degeneration and retinal problems. ASUS Eye Care mode effectively reduces blue light levels by up to 33% to make reading comfortable and to protect from potential eye fatigue and other ailments. Overall, the display is good enough for working on but the low resolution leaves users wanting more during media playbacks. The Asus VivoBook Max X541NA-GQ028T has an Intel Celeron N3350 processor (1.1 GHz), which is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM. The ASUS VivoBook Max X541NA-GQ028T offers a 500 GB HDD. The performance of this configuration is suitable for undemanding users and only for office applications and web browsing. ASUS VivoBook Max Series laptops are designed to deliver an immersive multimedia experience. ASUS-exclusive technologies like SonicMaster audio, incorporating ICEpower technology, ASUS Splendid, and ASUS Tru2Life Video make movies and music come alive. The laptop draws its energy from a 35 Wh strong battery. In terms of battery runtimes, it has approximately 5 hours for office applications and 4 hours for video playback. Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-bit) is available on startup on the ASUS VivoBook Max X541NA-GQ028T. As for input/output interfaces, there are two USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, a VGA port and an SDXC card reader. The reversible USB Type-C port ensures a proper connection every time, right-side up, or upside down. It also provides data transmission speeds of up to 5 Gbps, which is almost 10 times that of USB 2.0. Wireless communication is possible via 802.11n WLAN and Bluetooth. This laptop is really good for simple work purposes but it ends there. Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Intel HD Graphics (Braswell): Integrated graphics card in the Intel Braswell series (Celeron and Pentium) processors. Based on the Broadwell architecture (Intel Gen8) supporting DirectX 11.2. Depending on the processor offers 12 or 16 shader cores (EU) and different clock speed.

Intel HD Graphics 500: Integrated low-end graphics adapter with DirectX 12 support, which can be found in some ULV SoCs from the Apollo Lake series.

Intel Celeron:

N3060: SoC with an integrated dual core Atom processor clocked at 1.6 - 2.48 GHz, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a dual channel DDR3L-1600 memory controller.

Celeron N3350: An Apollo Lake family, dual-core, ultra-low-power processor (SoC) that saw the light of day in 2016. Its two cores run at 1.1 GHz to 2.4 GHz; these are not Hyper-Threading-enabled meaning there are no additional threads. This chip has a fairly competent integrated graphics solution, the Intel HD Graphics 500, and eats very little (~6 W). The Celeron N3350 is based on the Goldmont CPU microarchitecture that came to replace Silvermont (2013), bringing with it several welcome improvements. The CPU is Secure Boot-compatible; technically, it will have no issue running 64-bit Windows 11. The average N3350 in our database is just as fast as the venerable Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 is in multi-thread loads; the two cores of this Celeron trail behind a single core of any half-decent CPU such as the Intel Core i3-7130U.

68%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
