Performance with the Asus U33Jc is quite impressive, especially when performing some processor-intensive tasks like video encoding and Adobe Photoshop use. Thanks to the ability to dynamically switch to the nVidia GeForce video processor inside, you can also use this laptop for some light 3D gaming with the game's graphic settings turned down slightly. Battery life is quite impressive as well with the included battery. It give an average of about 7:30 hours, which is pretty impressive for an ultraportable.

If you're in the market for a lightweight ultraportable laptop that can handle a wide range of tasks, you can't do much better than the Asus U33JC. It's competitively priced, comfortable to carry and handles spreadsheets and streaming movies with equal aplomb. The bamboo design choice is a love-it-or-hate-it affair. With such an elegant blend of form and function, the eco-conscious bamboo exterior is just icing on the cake.

The ASUS U33JC-A1 is an extremely attractive and extremely well built laptop with a few annoying little issues. First, the fact that ASUS weakened the Nvidia graphics in order to extend battery life means you don't get the best possible performance out of this laptop. Second, the keyboard is a mixture of nice keys with horribly mushy support/feedback underneath. Last, but certainly not least is the issue of ASUS loading way too much bloatware onto the laptop straight from the factory. On the brighter side, the U33JC features that fabulous bamboo inlay on the lid and the palm rests. The webcam privacy switch is a simple yet much loved addition. The inclusion of USB 3.0 and wireless display technology likewise provide terrific value. And let's not forget about the battery life: roughly six hours on non-stop wireless usage in a coffee shop or on a cross-country flight is a great thing. If you can look past the minor blemishes the ASUS U33JC-A1 is one jewel of a notebook.

I will confess upfront - I really like this notebook. To me, the ASUS U33Jc has everything - style, performance, portability, battery life, and value. It’s a sub-$1000 system with a full powered processor, a dedicated graphics card that intelligently switches off to conserve power, and up to 10 hours of battery life if I need it, all in a 3.97lb package that looks like it came from the center console of a Mercedes S-class. Where do I sign up?

No matter how inspired a laptop design, chances are it is made of either glossy or textured plastic, or, in some upscale cases, aluminum or magnesium. A welcome change of pace from the usual glossy plastic and brushed-metal laptop styles, the bamboo-clad Asus U33Jc-A1 looks great and also packs in some very useful technology.

The U33Jc may be on the bamboo list now, but it's much more than a bamboo laptop. The wood certainly makes you feel like you're buying a unique device, but the draw of the machine for most will be its superior blend of graphics, performance and battery life. We still have to knock the U33Jc for its lack of an optical drive, the cheap feeling keyboard quality, and it's thicker chassis.

The Asus U33Jc-A1's craftmanship deserves every design accolade imaginable, but it's hard not to draw comparisons to the similarly configured U30Jc-A1, the current Editors' Choice. You're basically paying a $100 premium for the bamboo design and trading in the optical drive for a minor bump in processor speed and hard drive capacity. Omitting an optical drive, having an under-clocked GPU, and running hot at the base are signs of insufficient cooling, you can only wonder, is the use of bamboo to blame? Who knows. What I do know is that the U33Jc-A1 is a beautifully made laptop, but the U30Jc-A1 is the better overall machine.

Look out, little laptops. With a generous hardware selection and an eye-catching design, the Asus U33Jc-A1 Bamboo is a fierce competitor among budget ultraportables. Its Nvidia Optimus technology balances battery life with graphics performance, making this $999 notebook a top contender in a price arena that most ultraportable models never even get to enter. Good looks, strong benchmark scores, and Nvidia Optimus technology make this bargain-buy ultraportable a standout for home and small-business users alike.

„Ecotainment“. The Asus U33JC from the "Bamboo Collection" attempts to straddle both multimedia performance and environmental friendliness paired with a longer battery life. Will it manage to succeed or is the netbook just a nice lifestyle accessory in 13.3 inches?

With the Bamboo U33jc, Asus is giving us a machine with good performance levels, yes, but also a 13.3-inch ultra-portable with an original design that stands out from the herd of existing models. If you're looking for good performance levels from a compact machine, the Bamboo U33jc won't disappoint. If battery life and weight are more important, the 13-inch MacBook Air remains a better option.

All in all, the U33JC isn't for everyone: the bamboo finish will divide buyers, as will the lack of a CD or DVD drive. If you are in the market for a powerful but distinctive laptop, though, this is a serious premium rival to Apple's Macbook range

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).

Intel Core i3:

370M: The Core i3-370M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.4 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

Intel Core i5:

430M:

The Core i5-430M is a middle class dual core CPU that features only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Furthermore, VT-d, trusted Execution and AES features are missing in the 430M. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics with 500-733 MHz) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

450M: Should be similar to the Core i5-520M but without AES functions.

78.56%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
