Core i3 Office Assistant. Intel's new processors are infiltrating inexpensive all-rounders. The K52JR has an i3-350M beside an ATI HD 5470 under its hood. A middle class GPU and a Core i3 processor without turbo boost - a perfect couple? We'll clarify, what Intel's smallest Arrandale range is capable of and if the 15.6 incher is a feasible office and multimedia notebook.
Source: Digital Versus

Designed for both work and play, the Asus K52Jr uses a latest gen Intel Core i3 processor – a real all rounder of a CPU. An allrounder mid-range model, the Asus K52Jr does what it sets out to. Performance and ease of use mean you can use it both for office work and multimedia. We do however regret that the panel is, once again, poor, that the battery life is so short and that its not more portable.

Looking at the K52F’s performance, it’s safe to say that this notebook is not the best performer among the entry-level notebooks that we have seen. Scores are pretty average but that is only if you’re comparing the K52F with other expensive notebooks. At Rs. 28,399 the ASUS K52F definitely offers quite a lot in comparison to many notebooks that are priced at a similar range like the Lenovo IdeaPad Z570. You can get an entry level desktop PC with a little better specifications at this price, but for those looking for a low-budget portable notebook, the K52F turns out to be a good option.

With a 320 GB hard drive, users might fall short of space for their multimedia content, not that this laptop is meant for entertainment in the first place. Also, the integrated graphics design might deter gaming fans. So if you’re a multimedia or gaming fan, there’s little for you in this package. But at Rs. 36,745, its price-performance ratio will surely compel a business person, professional and even a home user to buy this laptop.

Along the edges of the ASUS K52Jr you'll find a built-in DVD burner, an SD card slot, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, VGA, microphone and headphone ports, and it also has three USB 2.0 ports. You also get 802.11n Wi-Fi and a webcam. You don't get Bluetooth or eSATA. It's a standard set of features for a laptop that costs just over $1000; the ASUS K52JR's biggest selling point is the ATI graphics adapter, which gives the notebook a little more graphics juice than other notebooks in this price range.

As a debut for Optimus the Asus K52JC is an inauspicious start. A better keyboard would do much to improve this machine, but it lacks any inspiring features and it doesn't offer great value for money. None of this is the fault of Optimus of course, but it's a shame the K52JC doesn't showcase its potential better.

Battery life with the Asus K52JT-XT1R is only average at about 2.5-3 hours of life, which is about on par with other similar computers. The lower battery life compared to more budget notebooks comes from the more powerful specifications, especially the quad-core Intel CPU and dedicated AMD graphics system.

The Asus K52JT-XT1R brings a lot of strong features to the table, like quad-core processing and a dedicated graphics card. Best of all, it manages to pack all of these components into a package that can be purchased for under $1000. While you can get a few better features from a more expensive system, like the Dell XPS 15, the Asus K52JT manages to hold in its category.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.
Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.
Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470: Entry level DirectX 11 chip with GDDR5 support but only 80 shader cores. Supports Eyefinity (up to 4 monitors) and 8-ch HD audio over HDMI. Performance on par with the old GeForce 8600M GT.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).
ATI Radeon HD 4200: Onboard graphics adapter (RS880M chipset) with UVD2 (PIP support) and DX 10.1 support (compared to the older HD 3200). Beware, possibly no 2D acelleration in Windows XP (as the HD3200).
AMD Radeon HD 6370M: Renamed old HD 5470 with 80 shader processors and DirectX11 support.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M:
Mid-range graphics card based on the GT 435M chip (GF108) with higher clock rates and DDR3 support.

Intel Core i3:
350M:
The Core i3-350M is technically a Core i5-430M without the Turbo Boost overlocking feature. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.26 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
380M: The Core i3-380M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.53 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
370M: The Core i3-370M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.4 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
Intel Core i5:
430M:
The Core i5-430M is a middle class dual core CPU that features only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Furthermore, VT-d, trusted Execution and AES features are missing in the 430M. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics with 500-733 MHz) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
AMD Phenom II X3:
N830: Mobile 3-core laptop processor based on the desktop Athlon II X3.
AMD Athlon II:
P320: Entry level dual core processor for 13"+ laptops featuring a DDR3 memory controller.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
740QM:
The Core i7-740QM is a high-end quad-core CPU for laptops (in 2010) with a relative small base clock rate and a high Turbo Boost max frequency of 2.93 GHz (for one core). Therefore, it combines the advantages of a slow clocked quad core CPU with a fast single core one. Compared to the faster Core i7 mobile CPUs, the 740QM only features 6MB L3 Cache.
AMD Phenom II X4:
P960: Slow clocked quad core CPU for mid size laptops (due to the 25 W TDP). Single threaded applications and games suffer from the low core speed.

2.5 kg:
2.7 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
72.93%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
