The C300 might not be as svelte or quick as many of its Chrome OS brethren, but the lightweight chassis makes it highly portable for those who prefer things a little larger on-screen. The colours won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but for us it’s a selling point that captures the essence of a Chromebook.

Asus C300MA-DB01

The design of the Asus C300MA-DB01 is beautiful and simple, yet looks sleek and sophisticated. It is the base model of the ultraportable C300 series with superior battery life for all day usage. The Chromebook is only 20 mm thick. The black model offers an elegant brushed metal look on the cover and interior making it more discrete. In contrast, the other 3 color options; red, blue and yellow; with a grey interior each look more playful. The Asus C300MA-DB01 comes with arguably the largest touchpad of its class, which supports multiple gestures, and a single piece design keyboard for a seamless look. Hardware on the Chrome OS device consists of an Intel Bay Trail-M dual-core Celeron N2830 processor, up to 4 GB DDR3L SDRAM and a 16 GB eMMC drive. This ensures a highly portable and responsive setup for great user experience. The 1.4 kg Chromebook also comes fully equipped with an SD card reader, Bluetooth 4.0, 1 USB 3.0 port, a single USB 2.0 port, an HDMI out and a micro SIM card slot depending on the model. Audio quality is stunningly clear and loud with powerful speakers. Together with the 13.3 inch 16:9 HD display it gives a good portable multimedia device. Users looking for portability or a secondary device will definitely like the Asus C300MA-DB01.

The ASUS C300 Chromebook is mixed when compared to the smaller C200. In some ways, it is the same such as the long running times and the excellent keyboard, which is a good. On the other hand, the larger size does not translate into a more detailed display or sized keyboard. At least the extra cost does come with increased memory and storage but in many ways, the more portable C200 is a better option.

As Chromebooks go, the Asus Chromebook C300 is definitely one of the more accomplished options, with the lengthy battery life a particular high point. However, in common with all Chromebooks, a question mark still hangs over whether it’s possible to work comfortably on a system that relies so heavily on persistent, always-on Internet – particularly as this notebook has no built-in mobile data.

If you need all-day computing, and then some, with a larger display, the Asus Chromebook C300 is a top choice, provided you've got constant Internet access. If you absolutely need Windows programs and compatibility, the HP Stream 13, our Editors' Choice for budget ultraportables, is an option in the same price range. However, if all you need is to get on the Web, then the C300 should be more than enough. We still prefer the Editors' Choice HP Chromebook 13 for its construction quality, IPS screen, and micro-USB charging, but if you need a larger screen and longer battery life, the C300 comes a close second.

Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
