The latest platform update for premium Claude accounts is hiding a quiet downgrade. Anthropic is officially ending a massive temporary promotional boost in mid-September, meaning active developers are about to lose a significant chunk of their weekly capacity.

Back on May 13, developers using Claude Code received a surprise upgrade when Anthropic rolled out a temporary 50 percent boost to weekly usage limits. Rather than letting the promotion expire as originally planned, the company extended the deadline four separate times over the summer, keeping the inflated capacity active and making it feel like the new normal. Now, that promotional window is officially closing. In a recent update from the ClaudeDevs account on X, the company announced that starting September 14, standard baseline limits will be permanently increased by 25 percent for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans. Once that new baseline takes effect, the 50 percent summer bonus will be entirely removed.

While a 25 percent permanent increase sounds like a major upgrade, Anthropic used some clever framing to deliver the news. The company proudly highlighted the permanent raise in its main announcement, but users quickly did the math themselves to find the catch. Because the new baseline replaces the current 50 percent promotional boost with a much smaller 25 percent bump, the change results in a strict 17 percent reduction in total weekly capacity. The company tucked this admission away in a threaded reply, prompting users to attach a Community Note directly to the main announcement to clearly warn others about the impending downgrade.

The decision to lower the overall capacity comes down to long-term sustainability, arriving just days after rival OpenAI similarly clamped down on developers by restoring a strict five-hour limit on its own Codex and Work tools. Anthropic explained that the adjustment was necessary to maintain the platform's stability over time. To help make up for the upcoming 17 percent drop, the company teased that more platform updates are on the way. The development team is working on interface changes that will give users much better visibility and control over their remaining weekly quotas. According to Anthropic, these upcoming tweaks are designed to make the platform feel more productive even with tighter restrictions in place.
