An updated Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 emerges

The new rugged convertible notebook is now available to customers for order with a starting price of about US $4,200

The latest fully rugged convertible laptop that has caught our attention is dubbed Toughbook CF-19 MK5 and is manufactured by Panasonic. Targeted towards all those people on-the-move working in the public, defense or maintenance sectors, along with mobile field operations professionals, this new device delivers a high-performance CPU, integrated graphics and a fan-less design.

The Toughbook CF-19 MK5 is IP65 and MIL-STD-810G compliant, meaning it is capable of operating in extreme temperatures and withstanding multiple free drops to concrete. In addition, it is fully protected against vibration, as well as dust and water ingress.

Configuration

Panasonic has decided to equip their latest offering with a rotating 10.1-inch transflective LCD wide touch-screen display (or an optional display with dual-touch capabilities). This 6000-nit sunlight-viewable panel features Panasonic’s CircuLumin technology.

Furthermore, the new Toughbook is powered by a Sandy Bridge Intel Core i5-2520M vPro central processing unit, clocked at 2.5GHz (up to 3.2GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0). The chip has 2 cores (4 threads), 35W max. Thermal Design Power and is ranked 31 in our CPU Benchmark List. An integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics card with shared dynamically allocated VRAM is also part of the standard configuration.

The fully rugged notebook houses 4-to 8GB of internal 1333MHz DDR3 memory and either a 320GB mechanical hard drive (7200rpm) or an optional Solid State Drive (SSD) with a storage capacity of 128GB/256GB.

Connectivity

Built-in Wireless LAN 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR adapters, along with optional Gobi2000 3G and GPS modules will help you stay connected. Moreover, customers can also take advantage of the two USB 2.0 ports, FireWire interface, VGA output, SD card reader slot and docking connectors.

An integrated 2.0MP web camera is available for video conferencing.

Other specs, availability and pricing

According to Panasonic, the device will ship with a pre-installed Windows 7 Professional (32bit or 64bit) operating system. Weight starts at 5.1 lbs (2.31kg) with the built-in 5600mAh Lithium-ion battery (up to 9 hours runtime).

The magnesium alloy case with hand strap houses a pressure sensitive touchpad with vertical scrolling support and a backlit keyboard (rubber or emissive). Security features include SmartCard & fingerprint reader, as well as HDD and battery lock.

Reportedly, the new Toughbook CF-19 MK5 can now be purchased and is priced at €2,950 (approximately US $4,200)
