Reviews for the Alienware S-4 m5500
Source: Driverheaven Archive.org version
Based on the size and specification of the M5500 Alienware obviously went out to create one of the fastest 15 inch notebooks available. Using a high spec Pentium M and the Mobility X1600 almost guarantees excellent performance. The laptop could have been let down by a bad choice on the other components though and a 5400rpm drive or inadequate memory would really kill performance. Thankfully the system is available with up to 2Gb of memory (ours featured 1Gb). The bundle provided with the system is (as always) very good and the personalised folder of information, t-shirt and mouse mat are nice touches. The laptop arrives very well packaged and there is almost no chance that it will be damaged in transit.

ATI Mobility Radeon X1600: ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 is a middle class graphic card for notebooks of the X1000 series. Its performance can be compared with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Pentium M: With Intel chip set (855 or 915) and Intel WLAN also available with the name Centrino (name for the package).
In the comparison very fast per megahertz and very modest with weaknesses in floating point operations.
It is also available as a low voltage version with very small current consumption.

15.40":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.3.3 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
