Reviews for the Advent 6555

Quite how Advent has managed to cram so much into a laptop for under £1,000 is a mystery to us. It's not without its fair share of issues and some may yearn for a higher native resolution, but in terms of performance the 6555 gives the majority of desktop PCs a run for their money. If you're looking for a gaming laptop but are on a tight budget, you'd do well to find better at this price.

A powerful quad-core laptop offering impressive gaming performance. Rounding out the specification, the 250GB hard drive is ideal for storing multimedia files and running games from the disk. A subwoofer is also fitted below the chassis, adding bass to music and games, but we found audio quality not much better than on rival laptops. Although there are more powerful gaming laptops on the market, the quad-core power and HD compatibility of the Advent 6555 make it a strong media centre and ideal for multimedia fans with an eye for the latest technology.

Based on the desktop HD 4850 but with slower clock rates, the Radeon HD 4850 features DirectX 10.1 support with a relatively large 256 bit memory bus.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core 2 Quad: Mobile version of the desktop Quad Core processor. Due to low clock rates it is not recommended for most applications.
Q9000:
Slow clocked quad core CPU (4 cores) that suffers especially in many games from the low clock speed. Therefore, not suited for games and only for highly multi threaded applications.

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.

Only a few laptops are in this weight class because the mobility is rather limited due to the high weight.
Advent: This is the laptop brand of the hardware magazine PC World. The marketing focusses UK. Reviews of Advent-Laptops are relatively frequent and not only by PC World.
80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
