IFA 2014 | Acer introduces Aspire Switch 11 series and a new Aspire Switch 10
Acer announced today at IFA 2014 in Berlin the expansion of its 2-in-1 convertible line by introducing the Aspire Switch 11 series, as well as a new Switch 10 with a 1080p Full HD display. The Switch family consists of portables powered by Microsoft Windows that combine both tablet and notebook capabilities in a single device.
The Aspire Switch 11 convertibles feature 11.6-inch displays with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, but they also have an anti-fingerprint coating that makes cleaning easier and also reduces fingerprints and smudges. These are the models unveiled today and their highlights:
- Aspire Switch SW5-171: Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM and up to 128 GB hard drive, Full HD display
- Aspire Switch SW5-111: Intel Atom Z3745, 2 GB RAM and 64 GB eMMC storage, 1,366X768 pixels display
Both models mentioned above use the magnetic detachable Snap Hinge which allows four flexible modes, come loaded with Windows 8.1 and feature Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n.
In addition to the two convertibles above, a new Aspire Switch 10 model has been unveiled today as well. It has two display options, Full HD or HD, but both these variants feature Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection like their 11.6-inch siblings. According to the official press release, this is "one of the thinnest 2-in-1 devices on the market," with only 0.35 inches in thickness when used in tablet mode.
The Aspire Switch 11 series will hit Pan America in October starting at $399 USD, while the new Aspire Switch 10 will be available later this month for at least $329.99 USD.
