You can pick up AMD's highest-end Zen 5 X3D CPU at a large 20 percent discount on Amazon's German storefront this week.

PC enthusiasts in the European Union looking for their next CPU can benefit from a limited-time deal on Amazon.de. AMD’s flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor has reached an all-time low of €649 in Germany, representing a near-20% discount from its original MSRP of €800.

This price drop, which occurred on August 23, is part of a broader discount trend for AMD’s Zen 5 CPUs equipped with 3D V-Cache, which bumps up gaming performance through an additional cache layer.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D boasts 16 cores, 32 threads, a base clock of 4.3GHz, which ramps up to a boost clock of 5.7 GHz, alongside 144MB of total cache, including 128 MB of L3 cache (divided between its two 8-core CCDs in a 96MB and 32MB configuration thanks to 64MB of 3D V-Cache on the former). This configuration makes the processor ideal for CPU-intensive gaming needs as well as productivity workflows like rendering and video editing due to its higher core configuration.

However, benchmarks do indicate that its gaming performance is, in some cases, slightly edged out by the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which remains an easier recommendation for users planning to game only due to its lower sticker price and for those not willing to deal with core parking issues that have been persistent for some users since the days of its predecessor, AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X3D.

The price reduction suggests that AMD is potentially preparing to clear inventory ahead of a newer product lineup and capitalizing on the year-end consumer upgrade trend. We’ve seen a somewhat similar move by AMD in the U.S. as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D dropped to $449, a 6% discount from its $479 MSRP, suggesting that CPU prices are stabilizing towards the tail end of the year.

For context, at the time of writing, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D continues to trade at €455 on Amazon.de, indicating the price cut could only be for its higher-core sibling, at least at the moment.

For consumers residing in Germany, this discount is pretty much a rare opportunity to snag one of the fastest processors on the market, which has consistently been at or above MSRP in the past. The CPU boasts a TDP of 170W and doesn’t include a cooler, so buyers will need to factor in the price for a robust cooling solution like the Noctua D15 G2 or a 360mm AIO cooler.

This price drop also comes amid the discounting of data center processors in the U.S., as AMD’s EPYC 9005 series CPUs and Intel’s Xeon 6 Performance-series CPUs have been discounted to around 50% of their MSRP.

This also includes previous generation SKUS, which are now being sold well below MSRP for direct customers at retail. It must be noted that AMD and Intel have done this quietly and not issued a direct reason for the price drops, indicating that they could potentially be pulled back in the forseeable future.
