In The Excrawlers, developed by indie studio Game Dynasty, players take on the role of a heroine who suddenly finds herself trapped in a dark fantasy world. How she ended up there remains a mystery at first. To find a way out, she must fight her way through five different regions and defeat an equally formidable lineup of bosses. Anyone interested in uncovering the mystery can currently pick up the game on Steam at a 93% discount, bringing the price down to $0.90 from $12.99. According to SteamDB, however, this isn't quite an all-time low. Last year, the RPG was available at an even steeper 94% discount.

The Excrawlers takes players through five distinct areas, including a metallic cave filled with medieval robots and a mysterious parallel dimension. Each region is home to monsters, puzzles and a powerful boss. Combat takes place in real time from an isometric top-down perspective, with swords, bows and various special abilities at your disposal. As players level up, they can distribute skill points across two talent trees. There's also a modifier system that allows for attacks such as flaming arrows and explosive projectiles or even the ability to summon clones for support. Naturally, there's plenty of loot to collect as well. Anyone who enjoys experimenting with character builds should feel right at home.

At the time of writing, The Excrawlers had received just 137 Steam reviews, but the overall reception was very positive, with 87% of players recommending the game. Players particularly praise the accessible combat system, rewarding character progression and charming pixel art. However, the story can be completed in just two to four hours. Once the main adventure is over, players can revisit previously explored areas to level up their character and collect new items. That should give The Excrawlers at least some lasting appeal – and make it worth a look for RPG fans searching for something to play between bigger releases. Incidentally, the game is also Steam Deck Verified.
