If the chrome color of the MacBook Air is a turnoff, then the most recent rumors regarding the imminent 2011 MacBook Air refresh could be the news you are looking for.
According to MacRumors, “anonymous tips” are claiming that a number of the upcoming MacBook Air models could be available with black anodized finishing. The anodizing process would increase the corrosion and wear resistance of the notebook chassis, a much-welcomed feature for portable electronics.
Apple has normally been quite conservative about end-user color options with its notebook lineups, so a black color choice would definitely get the attention of Apple fans and potential customers alike. The current MacBook Air is only officially available in its iconic silver chrome finish.
Still, at least one other website has its doubts about the black MBA. According to Electronista sources, a more “established contact” has heard no mention of a color option outside of the usual silver. For now, we will have to wait and see until Apple decides to publically unveil the inevitable new MacBook Air lineup. Previous rumors are suggesting a launch or reveal as early as July.
