Amazon Echo Show 16 launches as Fire TV, night-vision camera and smart home hub

Amazon is adding a higher-end Echo Show 16 alongside the Echo Show 15, packing a 10 percent larger 1080p display with an optional nano-texture surface into a 40 percent thinner aluminum chassis. The device can either be hung on a wall or mounted on a separately sold stand.
The Echo Show 16 features a new sound system with no fewer than eight woofers and two tweeters, which should particularly benefit video chats and use as a Fire TV. The sound is automatically adjusted to the room. The 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera is not only used for video chats, but also allows Alexa+ to recognize people at a distance of up to 17 feet. A night vision mode should also make it suitable for use as a security camera.
Amazon includes a room temperature sensor as well as a processor that is 20 percent faster than the one in the Echo Show 15. In addition to serving as a compact smart TV and for video chats, the Echo Show 16 is primarily intended to be a practical way to control smart home devices, have conversations with Amazon's Alexa+ AI chatbot, and display small apps such as a calendar or a photo gallery. To protect privacy, a dedicated button is available that disables all cameras and microphones.
Pricing and availability
Amazon Echo Show 16 is expected to ship before the end of the year and will be offered with either a glossy display for $499.99 or a matte display for $569.99. The stand with tilt functionality costs an additional $124.99. Those who pre-order the Echo Show 16 will receive a $100 discount.
