Xiaomi Mi 5s gets MIUI 8

Xiaomi Mi 5s Android smartphone gets MIUI 8 software update

The global stable ROM version 8.0.3.0.MAGMIDI for the Xiaomi Mi 5s is finally available. The update is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and sadly there is no changelog for it yet.

MIUI 8 has been around for a while, but Xiaomi still has to push it to a few older handsets. The latest device to get support for the new Marshmallow-based firmware is Xiaomi Mi 5s, which receives the MIUI Global Stable ROM V8.0.3.0.MAGMIDI, so all variants should be covered by this update, especially the international ones.

Unfortunately, the official announcement does not come with a changelog attached, being the first release. The size of the new firmware is 1.3 GB (the installation files for recovery) or 1.5 GB (fast boot version which requires device unlock). Given these sizes, it is rather safe to assume that most Android Marshmallow features are in place, including Google Now on Tap, Doze Mode, new emojis, multiple UI improvements, and much more.

Xiaomi Mi 5s users who run a previous global stable ROM version should get the new firmware via OTA, while others will have to download the files manually and flash via the fast boot process or the stock Xiaomi recovery.
