In the first week of the new month, Microsoft is taking a cautious approach with Xbox Game Pass. Subscribers can look forward to two new additions to the library, offering light entertainment for short gaming sessions – a Metroidvania and a platformer.

The final week of May was packed for Game Pass, featuring two new releases alongside a pair of AAA titles. With that in mind, subscribers should find it easy to accept that "only" two indie games are arriving in the first week of June. Here's what Crypt Custodian and Symphonia have to offer.

Crypt Custodian - June 3 (PC, console and cloud)

Crypt Custodian is a 2D Metroidvania where players take on the role of Pluto – a cheeky yet charming cat who finds herself in the afterlife after an untimely demise. But her antics in heaven get her kicked out by the creator, who assigns her a new role: janitor of a cursed crypt. Her mission? Clean up, fight off monsters and maybe stir up enough trouble to overturn her sentence.

The game delivers tongue-in-cheek cleaning gameplay blended with dynamic real-time combat. As you explore winding crypt corridors, you'll battle ghosts and gooey creatures while unlocking new abilities – ranging from magical broom attacks to double jumps, dashes and special cleaning gear. Along the way, you'll meet quirky characters from the afterlife, take on side quests and piece together clues about Pluto's past, all presented in a charming cartoon art style.

Symphonia - June 3 (PC, console and cloud)

Symphonia is a musical platformer that casts you as a mysterious violinist awakening in an abandoned concert hall. Your mission is to restore music to a world lost in silence. The game tells a poetic story without words, relying instead on sound, harmony and graceful movement to bring its message to life.

The violinist in Symphonia doesn’t just play music – he uses his instrument as a means of movement. With graceful leaps, double jumps and a violin bow that acts like a grappling hook, he glides effortlessly through levels filled with platforms, mechanisms and musical contraptions. While the gameplay isn’t rhythm-based, progressing smoothly still requires a good sense of timing and flow. The hand-drawn visuals evoke the charm of animated short films and paired with the gentle rhythm and atmospheric soundtrack, the game offers an almost meditative experience.
