WSJ: Samsung plans on releasing 8" tablet in June

Teaser
New Galaxy tablet could launch this June alongside a more rugged S4 smartphone

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Samsung is working towards the release of a new tablet, slotting in between their current Galaxy Tab offerings. The tablet is supposed to launch sometime this June, and should boost the company's portfolio amidst news of new Apple products.

The report had no other specifics regarding the tablet's hardware or pricing, but there was mention of a more durable Galaxy S4 coming in July. The "rugged" smartphone will likely be known as the S4 Active, adding waterproof and dustproof capabilities while maintaining the overall look and feel of the device.  In addition, Samsung is working on a 4.3" S4 Mini, covering the entire spectrum of sizes in the process.

Samsung currently has 7" and 10.1" Galaxy tablets as well as 8" and  10.1" Galaxy Note hybrids, but they obviously feel that something is missing from their lineup. Amazon's Kindle Fire and the iPad Mini have dominated the smaller tablet market, and Samsung likely hopes that an 8" device is their way in.
