The in-display fingerprint sensor from Synaptics will be featured for the first time in the Vivo X20 Plus smartphone. This model comes with mid-range specs and will only be available in China at launch.

Showcased at CES 2018, the X20 Plus smartphone from Vivo is ready to hit the Chinese market come February 1. For the the X20 Plus, Vivo managed to integrate the fingerprint reader in the display rather than on the back, making it the first company to launch this sort of under-glass sensor supplied by Synaptics. Do note that this type of sensor will not work properly with plastic or glass protectors. It will work with thin film protectors, however.

We already knew the display is going to be bezel-less on the sides and have a 6.4-inch diagonal with 2160 x 1080, but, thanks to the imminent Chinese launch, more specs have now been released. The smartphone is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with 4 GB of RAM and supports up to 128 GB of internal storage. There is a dual camera setup on the back, but the preliminary specs do not reveal the resolutions. It runs Android 7.1 and features the latest WiFi + Bluetooth 5.0 technology, while the battery is a hefty 3,905 mAh with fast charge option.

The X20 Plus will be available only in China for the time being, and the Vivo site lists the model at an MSRP of around US$560.
