The Honor 400 is classified as a mid-range smartphone on paper, but boasts components and functions that make it stand out from the crowd. In return, however, a few things are lacking.

The Honor 400 is a more compact smartphone than its predecessor, sporting a high-quality design. Glass protects both the front and back, while the matte back is resistant to fingerprints. The frame is made of plastic, yet the device impresses with its excellent workmanship and a display-to-body ratio of 90%. While IP65 certification protects against dust and water splashes, it does not protect against submersion. Another practical addition is the integrated infrared transmitter.

In terms of connectivity, the Honor 400 offers Wi-Fi 6, albeit without the 6 GHz band, as well as 5G and eSIM support. Reception quality is good and call quality is also impressive, although the noise surpression reaches its limits in noisy environments.

Honor 400 turns photos into videos

The device runs Android 15 and the MagicOS 9.0 interface. Honor guarantees both security and system updates for six years. A special AI feature transforms photos into short animated clips using Google's Veo 2. Other AI features include subtitles, a translator, deepfake detection and much more.

The camera setup includes a 50 MP selfie camera with pixel binning on the front, which delivers respectable quality. The rear now has only a dual camera and the optical zoom is no longer available. Instead, digital zoom is managed via the 200 MP sensor, which is impressive in terms of quality. The ultra-wide-angle lens delivers acceptable shots, but exhibits blurring at the edges and a low dynamic range. The macro function is helpful. Videos can be recorded in 4K at 30 fps.

The Honor 400 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, which offers solid but not top-class performance. In terms of performance-intensive applications, it becomes apparent that other devices in this price range occasionally have more powerful processors. Graphics performance, however, is solid and remains stable under load without noticeable throttling.

The speakers provide decent sound, but are a little hollow at high volumes. The 5,300 mAh battery allows for long battery life, but wireless charging is lacking. More detailed information about the smartphone can be found in our review.
