Toshiba officially announces 10.1-inch Regza tablet

The tablet will have special connectivity integration between other Toshiba-branded laptops and HDTVs.

After months of screenshots, rumors, and teasers, Toshiba has finally come clean with its upcoming Android tablet. Officially called the Regza Tablet AT300, the 10.1-inch tablet is slated for a late June release in Japan.

As expected, the Regza will launch with the tablet-optimized Android 3.0, which will make the Regza one of the few tablets so far to be equipped with the latest Android OS. Currently, the only available Android Honeycomb tablets are the Motorola Xoom and the recently released LG G-Slate, with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 coming early June.

Previous leaks and listings hit the spot with regards to the specifications of the Regza. The tablet will be powered by the dual-core Tegra 2 processor with 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD, front and rear cameras, HDMI, and both miniUSB and USB 2.0. In total, the device will weigh 765 grams (1.68 lbs) with up to 7 hours of battery life.

Readers familiar with the “Regza” name will instantly recognize that the moniker is also used for Toshiba’s line of HDTVs. The similar naming scheme is most likely intentional, as Toshiba is planning to incorporate some level of communication between Regza-branded devices. As a result, the Regza tablet will come with the “Regza Apps Connect” functionality for wireless integration between Toshiba HDTVs, laptops, and tablets.

At launch, users can pick up the Regza AT300 for about 60,000 yen ($730), presumably without contract. A solid U.S. launch date has yet to be officially confirmed.
