There was a time when 17-inch LCD screens cost a fortune to buy—and this was just a standalone screen. A year ago, you were guaranteed to spend at least $2,000 on a 17-inch laptop. Now, you can get one for half that. The Toshiba Satellite P205-S6237 ($999 direct) is tailored to penny-pinchers whose main concern is screen space. It bundles a gorgeous 17-inch screen that will make you forget about that old desktop, but you'll have to contend with middle-of-the-road components.
Naturally, you'll have to deal with some bulk any time you integrate a 17-inch widescreen. The P205's 7.3-pound frame is tolerable as long as the laptop stays in one place most of the time. The Acer Aspire 9300-5005—the only other 17-inch laptop that's priced under $1,000—is half a pound heavier.

The good: Attractive design; movie-friendly display; comfortable keyboard and well-designed touch pad; lightweight for a desktop replacement. The bad: Economy processor results in mediocre performance and below-average battery life; large company logo on lid is off-putting; lacks Bluetooth option. The bottom line: The 17-inch Toshiba Satellite P205-S6237 laptop looks good but is hobbled by its budget processor. You can get more for your money elsewhere.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip on Mobile Intel 945GM chipset. It is a faster clocked version of the GMA 900 and supports no hardware T&L (Transform & Lightning) accelleration (which is required for some games).
Only older games can be played fluently with these graphics chips (if they were not too demanding). Shared memory graphic cores in this category got the advantage of less heat production and longer battery runtimes. For office, internet, image processing, and video editing tasks these graphics chips are still useable without any restrictions.

Intel Pentium Dual Core: The return of the name Pentium, though it is a Yonah core. In fact, it is a double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption.
T2080:

17.1": Nowadays, meanwhile the 17 inch display size is a more frequently offered standard format for desktop-replacements. 17 inch laptops are built only in 16:10 format.
The DTR-Laptops can't be carried easily, need much current, but on the other side texts can be read easily and high resolutions are no problem. DTR mainly are intended for stationary usage on desks, where the weight and the energy need are unimportant.
>> To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.5 kg: This laptop is heavy below average, compared with the average of notebooks. Therefore especially desktop replacements fit in this class of weight.
Toshiba: Toshiba is one of the biggest international notebook-manufacturer. There exist many reviews for Toshiba models. The ratings of German magazines are very positive, but the relation of price and value is evaluated rather average. The ratings according the features and display are also quite well for Toshiba notebooks.
61.5%: Such a bad rating is rare. There exist hardly any notebooks, which are rated worse.
