Back in 2023, Tesla introduced a Tire Protection Plan for the Model Y that charged $55 annually and covered the most common "road hazards" like hitting a pothole or puncturing.
"The plan does not cover cosmetic damages, theft or vandalism," cautioned the fine print at the time, but, at $55 a year, some considered it worth it for the extra peace of mind it brings to careles parkers or while driving on bad roads.
Tesla has now introduced a new tire protection subscription offer for the Model Y and its other vehicles, with a more bombastic Tesla Wheel and Tire Protection Plan (WTPP) naming. The tire protection plan comes with unlimited repairs, but tire or wheel replacements come with a $25 deductible apiece.

Tesla Wheel and Tire Protection Plan coverage
The fine print, however, remains the same, with numerous caveats. After buying a new Model Y, the owner is eligible for the Wheel and Tire Protection Plan within 30 days of taking delivery. If there is no tire protection plan offer in the Upgrades section of the app, then Tesla may have determined that their wheels and tires will need to be inspected first.
This time around Tesla also says that the "Wheel and Tire Protection Plan does not cover cosmetic damages, theft, vandalism or previous damages that predates the subscription date of the plan," too, leaving curb rashes to the discretion of the Service Center to decide on eligibility.
Tesla referrals after ordering
Besides the new monthly Wheel and Tire Protection Plan that costs $16 for a Model Y, Tesla will be introducing another option that can be applied after a purchase.
Buyers will be able to apply Tesla referral codes after ordering, a feat that many fans have been requesting for a long time. While this post-order referral application somewhat defeats the purpose of going the extra mile to convince friends or family to buy a Tesla, it will be a godsend for those who for some reason had a referral code and forgot to apply it before ordering, or a glitch in the system didn't register their code.
