If you’re looking to take a break from intense multiplayer action and prefer a shooter with a strong campaign, Titanfall 2 might be worth a look. GameStar praised its single-player mode – and right now, it’s available on Steam with 85% off.

Titanfall 2 is a first-person shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. Released on October 28, 2016, it introduced a full single-player campaign – a major addition compared to its predecessor. Inspired by classics like Half-Life and Portal, the story follows Jack Cooper, a regular militia rifleman who unexpectedly teams up with the Titan BT-7274 after its pilot is killed. Together, they must stop the powerful Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) from unleashing the Fold Weapon – a superweapon capable of wiping out entire planets.

The game combines classic shooter mechanics with fast, fluid movement. As a pilot, you can run along walls, double-jump, slide or swing across arenas using a grappling hook. The campaign lets you switch between the agile pilot and a heavily armed combat mech – the Titan. Alongside intense firefights, it includes light puzzles and multiple ways to tackle different challenges. And if you're in the mood for competitive action, the multiplayer mode lets you earn points during matches to call in a Titan and shift the tide of battle.

Reviews: Strong campaign, but story falls short

The German gaming magazine GameStar reviewed Titanfall 2 at launch, praising its gripping campaign and inventive level design. The testers highlighted the game's consistently smooth performance, precise gunplay and outstanding movement system. While the campaign received high marks – GameStar even called it "one of the best shooter campaigns of the year" – the story was seen as lacking in depth. The absence of a co-op mode for the campaign and occasional issues with multiplayer matchmaking were also noted as drawbacks.

In GameStar’s review, Titanfall 2 received a strong overall score of 87 out of 100. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 86 and a User Score of 8.5. The game is especially well-regarded on Steam, where over 227,000 players have given it a 95% positive rating.

85% discount on Steam

On Steam, Titanfall 2 normally sells for about $30, but it's currently available for just $4.50 thanks to an 85% discount running until June 26. It's a solid deal, though not unusual – SteamDB shows similar discounts have been offered before.
