Blu-Ray player. Sony introduces another all-round notebook from the EH series with the Vaio EH1Z1E/B. The highlight is the Blu-Ray player, but the 6 GB of RAM and the 640 GB hard disk are also impressive. Can the notebook convince with only that?

The Sony VAIO VPC-EH14FM/B provides a lot of wireless features, including WiDi 2.0, WiMAX, and Wi-Fi, and performance numbers that are on par with the HP dv6-6013cl. But it can't compete with the Lenovo IdeaPad V570-1066A9U, our Editors' Choice for budget laptops. The Lenovo V570-1066A9U give you the same features (plus an eSATA port for fast external hard drives) with a better CPU for $30 less. However, if you don't need as much oomph out of your laptop the VPC-EH14FM/B will be a good companion for road warriors who don't want to sacrifice their screen size for the sake of ultra-portability.

Beautiful weakling. Sony shows us that notebooks can be real lookers, with the new 15-inch Vaio VPC-EH1M1E and its attractive rippled surface design. But is it all style and no substance? We take a closer look at this head-turner in our review.

But it's not all about USB 3.0 and many of you probably won't care about that feature. The E Series is definitely a nice notebook and what you pay for is a very good user experience. The screen is above-average, the keyboard is very comfortable and the touchpad isn't bad either. Its battery could use a little more juice.

From battery life to performance, there’s nothing that the Editors’ Choice Asus UE56E-BBL6 doesn’t handle better than the Sony VAIO VPC-EH25FM—but it costs nearly $150 more. The Samsung NP300E5A-A01UB just surpasses the Sony on the features and performance fronts, and costs the same, though the VPC-EH25FM has a more eye-catching look. Which of the two is better for you depends on where your priorities lie, but regardless, the VPC-EH25FM is a solid middle-of-the-road choice.

Sony's E series laptop remains physically unchanged in its latest revision. While the system gets a boost in the performance thanks to the new Core i3 processor and storage thanks to the larger 640GB hard drive, it falls to pull far enough away from just being an average budget laptop. In particular, at nearly six pounds, it is one of the heaviest of the 15-inch laptops available now.

Still, before we gripe too much about its battery life or that missing USB 3.0 port, it's worth remembering that the VPC-EH35FM/B is priced $100 or more below most of its competitors. At $629.99, it's a worthy alternative to our Editors' Choice Asus U56E-BBL6 and other top value contenders.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
76.55%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
