With all the hue and cry over going green and using eco friendly stuff floating around, the technology sphere isn’t feeling left out of the game either. Solar Laptop keyboards are increasingly being seen as a medium to cut your power bill due to laptop usage by around 20% while also helping to reduce carbon footprint.
Logitech is one of the companies that has come out with one such solar-powered keyboard. This device can also actually draw power from an ambient light source in case you don’t have access to bright sunlight or even otherwise. Thereby you don’t need to fret if your workplace is located in a dimly lit place; you can still conveniently use your keyboard even while gamming.
AUO is another company which has also recently announced its very own model of a solar-powered keyboard built along the same lines. AUO claims that by incorporating a solar module into the laptop's lid and also as a part of the keyboard itself, power consumption on usage is cut down by around 20%. This is possible because the laptop is capable of absorbing both solar as well as electric light.
The technology is going to be a subject of interest at FPD International 2010 on the 10th of November, which is today. Pricing and other details like release date etc are still pretty nebulous with no official announcements on the same. However this is one technology that shows much promise for the near future.
