Several specs for the SM8450, Qualcomm's purported next generation of flagship chipsets for mobile devices, have emerged quite recently. Not long afterward, a Lenovo executive has reportedly confirmed that the OEM will develop phones based on this SoC, to be sold under its brand as well as that of Motorola.

According to fresh new leaks, the SM8450 is a processor that might launch with a name along the lines of Qualcomm Snapdragon 895 or 898 soon. This is due to specs that distinctly paint the SoC as an upgrade on the current flagship 888 platform. Not long after the potentially significant tips, a Lenovo executive may have let slip that the OEM already has plans for the silicon.

Chen Jin, described as Lenovo's general manager of its mobile-device business department, has taken to Weibo to indicate that SM8450-based phones from this company will be ready to launch "in the winter" (as per Google Translate). The potential new flagships are slated to ship under the OEM's own brand, as well as that of its subsidiary Motorola.

Presuming these comments refer to a coming 2021 season, this is consistent with earlier reports that the SM8450 will be ready to go from December of the same year. Thus far, Samsung and TSMC are said to be the main contenders to manufacture the advanced new processor, touted to come with a Kryo 780 CPU and Snapdragon X65 5G modem.
