Huawei is expected to launch the Watch 3 series in a few weeks, which should comprise the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro. A recent certification document all but confirms that Huawei's next smartwatches will run on HarmonyOS, rather than the LiteOS that the company currently uses.

Earlier this month, we reported that Huawei plans to release new smartwatches on June 2. For some reason, Huawei has abandoned the GT branding that it has been using for the last few years. Apparently, the WATCH3 and WATCH3 Pro (stylised) will replace the GT 2 Pro as Huawei's flagship smartwatches, a refresh of the Watch GT 2 itself.

Until now, Huawei's smartwatches have run LiteOS, but a new Wi-Fi Alliance certification suggests that this is changing too. According to certification WFA112029, Huawei has certified a smartwatch running HarmonyOS. The smartwatch has the model number GLL-AL00, which Wareable asserts is the Watch 3.

Incidentally, the GLL-AL00 only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi up to 802.11 n (WiFi 4), an old standard in 2021. The device does support WPA 3 though, which is always welcome to see. Huawei is expected to bring ECG, blood pressure and LTE capabilities to its next smartwatches too, although it is unclear what the Watch 3 series will look like.
