Polar has just released a new software update for two smartwatches, namely the Polar Vantage V3 and Polar Grit X2 Pro models. This updates the firmware to version 4.1.5 and not only fixes bugs but introduces new features. In two corresponding posts, Polar states that turn-by-turn guidance is now available for all routes (and route types). This allows users to be informed about changes in direction and when turns are necessary, similar to Google Maps. These notifications can be delivered via vibrations and audio, eliminating the need to constantly check the watch.
Like Garmin earlier this year, Polar has also integrated the option of securing your smartwatch with a PIN. The watches can detect when they are removed, so users will need to enter a six-digit PIN to unlock and continue using them. Such a feature reinforces user privacy, as it prevents strangers from reading notifications. Another function involves sending the heart rate to other devices, which can be useful in combination with compatible fitness devices. Polar states that a few minor updates have also been made and certain bugs fixed. For example, one of the bugs fixed relates to heart rate measurement with optical sensors. Lastly, users now have better, bigger zoom-out possibility when accessing maps outside of training.
