Reviews for the Origin PC EON17-SLX

80% Origin EON17-SLX Review and Ratings
Source: Computer Shopper English
Despite its boxy, generic-looking shell, the Origin EON17-SLX is a stunning performer in our test configuration, with a phalanx of top-notch components that put up some of the best benchmark numbers we've seen. And even shaving $2,500 or so off the price and opting for something closer to the base configuration, it's still a formidable rig with a matte 1080p screen that will make today's games look great.

70% Origin EON17-SLX review: blurring the line between desktop replacement and desktop
Source: PC World English
The Origin EON17-SLX is an absolute powerhouse, but I worry that it’s too much of a desktop replacement. Let me explain: the laptop is heavy (it weighs 9.2 pounds, and its power block weighs 3.8 pounds for a total weight of 13 pounds), it has poor battery life, and it will definitely benefit from several external peripherals. For example, you’ll definitely need to hook up a mouse, an optical drive (Origin sends a slim Blu-ray drive with the system for an extra $113), and possibly a speaker system.

When financial limits are tossed to the wind, you’ll find laptops that offer higher-than-high-end components, opting for absurdly powerful processors instead of the slimmer, battery-friendly CPUs used elsewhere. The Origin EON17-SLX high-end gaming laptop has the latest and best of everything, from an overclocked quad-core processor to SLI graphics.

85% Origin EON17-SLX

Origin’s EON17-SLX is every gamer’s dream. It doesn’t just play games well; it sneaks behind them, puts them in a chokehold, and forces them to say bad things about their mothers. Only Nvidia 3D vision (an optional extra not found on our review unit), in combination with a demanding title at maximum detail, might challenge the hardware in this laptop.

83% Windows 8 comes to this massive gaming laptop
Source: CNet English
It's telling that the very first thing I did with this new Windows 8 version of the Origin EON17-SLX desktop replacement gaming laptop was to try and swipe past the Windows 8 lock screen with my finger. No one puts together custom high-end gaming laptops, including this desktop-busting 17-inch EON17-SLX, better than Origin, but you'll pay for that expertise.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M SLI: High-end SLI-setup of two GeForce GTX 680M, based on the Kepler-architecture and manufactured in 28nm.

These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

3940XM: Fastest Ivy Bridge mobile CPU (and fastest mobile CPU at all) at the time of arrival (September 2012) and clocked at 3.0 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.9 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller. Compared to the other quad-core it features a 10W higher TDP of 55W.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

17.3": Meanwhile the 17 inch display size is a more frequently offered standard format for desktop-replacements. The DTR-laptops can't be carried easily, need much energy but on the other side texts can be read easily and high resolutions are no problem. DTR mainly are intended for stationary usage on desks, where the weight and the energy need are unimportant.

4.2 kg: This laptop is heavy below average, compared with the average of notebooks. Therefore especially desktop replacements fit in this class of weight.

Origin PC: This US-American computer shop sells its own laptop brand with low market share.

79.6%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
