More evidence of LTE functionality for some Garmin smartwatches, which could include the rumored Fenix 8 Pro, has appeared. Reports about this upgraded version of the Fenix 8 started in May 2025, when this LTE connectivity feature was first mentioned.
A recent leak from the5krunner, citing their regular source JohnW, reveals that Garmin is developing a “new plan” with 4G LTE and satellite functionality. Supported features are said to include LiveTrack location sharing, voice calls and SOS messages.
A report by Garmin Rumors confirms further details about this functionality. Using AppSensa software, the blog has uncovered various mentions of the LTE feature in a recent version of the Garmin Connect mobile app. One line in the code, which appears to be linked to a screen shown post LTE activation, states “Stay connected and leave your phone behind with a satellite and LTE plan.” The Garmin Connect app’s code also points to features like two-way messaging and voice calling over LTE.
While Garmin has yet to officially announce this feature, it appears that it will be for inReach subscribers, rather than Garmin Connect+ subscribers. However, the code behind the Garmin App indicates that these two services are merging to some extent, with users at least able to manage their inReach subscription in-app. It is also worth noting that coverage will vary by country.
On top of this, The5krunner speculates that there could be other LTE wearables from the brand aside from the rumored Fenix 8 Pro. It remains to be seen when Garmin will release any smartwatches with LTE functionality, be that a Fenix 8 series smartwatch (curr. $1,099.99 at Amazon) or otherwise.
