Medion's Akoya P8610 is a high-powered desktop replacement with ample features and great graphics. Medion is known for its budget laptops, but it also makes machines for multimedia use. The Akoya P8610 is the largest and one of the most feature-packed laptops around for the price. If you're seeking a multimedia centre, then few laptops can compete with the Akoya P8610. The keyboard may be compromised, but there's a lot of laptop available here for the money.

The Akoya P8610 is a monster-sized and well-specified laptop, suitable for home TV and film entertainment. Build quality and styling are basic but functional; and the pricing is at the lower end for a big screen Blu-ray Drive laptop, making this a model worth investigating.

You can toggle between the high and low power settings if you wish, and a neat Nvidia logo displays which setting you are on. Even so you’ll only get 2hrs 15mins from the battery on performance mode, boosted to 3hrs 30mins in power saver mode, with the screen brightness right down. Start watching a Blu-ray disc, and even in power saving mode you are looking at just over 2 hours from the battery, so a push to finish many films. But then there is the price and at £799 Medion have once again opted for a compelling price point. The inclusion of a Blu-ray drive as standard does provide some degree of future proofing, however, there are better quality builds, more powerful processors and better designs out there if you have a little more cash. If cash is king, however, then this is worth seriously considering.

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS: Slower clocked 9600M GT and therefore a bit slower and cooler. In conjunction with an 9100M the 9600M GS is able to use HybridPower to save current.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
T5800: Entry level dual core processor based on the Merom core without Virtualization support and a low maximum temperature.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
18.40": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.8 kg:
Only a few laptops are in this weight class because the mobility is rather limited due to the high weight.
Medion: Medion AG is a German consumer electronics company. It operates in Europe, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific region. The main products are computers, TVs, refrigerators, toasters, and fitness equipment. The manufacturer of laptops Medion mainly is active in the German market, but to smaller extent also in Western Europe. Market shares and amount of reviews are low. Above all, supermarkets like Aldi sell their laptops. In 2011, Medion has been acquired by the laptop manufacturer Lenovo.
81%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
