Despite being announced a while ago, Insomniac and PlayStation were tight-lipped about the status of Marvel's Wolverine. The Insomniac data breach almost certainly threw a spanner in the game's development, and some enterprising hackers even cobbled together a somewhat playable version of the game using illegally acquired game files. Against all odds, the game has finally been shown off at Sony's State of Play.
Marvel's Wolverine appears to use the same engine as Marvel's Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. The trailer didn't show off much in the way of gameplay, but the bits that were revealed highlighted a gory, visceral aesthetic, something that is borderline essential for a Wolverine-themed game. It aims to make up for the lack of Spider-Man's mobility and verticality with added focus on combat.
Unfortunately, Marvel's Wolverine still does not have a concrete release date, with the trailer simply citing Fall 2026 as a launch window. It is at the tail end of the PlayStation 5 launch cycle, which is usually when the best games emerge. Besides, 2025 already has Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2.
