Even so, this laptop has a combination of traits that makes it stand out from many competitors. If you need a portable laptop, and you need decent performance, and you need over six hours of battery life, all for under $600, the MSI is going to be a top choice. Only the ASUS 1215N and 1215B come to mind as solid alternatives, but both are significantly smaller, which will be a deal-breaker for some buyers.

We're fans of AMD's Zacate processor. What AMD has been able to accomplish with Fusion is to be applauded, and while it took a while for a legitimate Atom contender to show up, we happy now that it's here. The E-350 is a great APU, and the X370 nicely showcases what AMD has worked so hard for.

At $550 less than the 13-inch MacBook Air, the MSI X370 is a budget-friendly alternative to that machine for those looking for an ultraportable that lasts a long time on a charge. Although the $749 MSI X370 is considerably less expensive than its predecessor, it offers better performance and battery life. Overall we prefer the soft-touch design of the $549 HP Pavilion dm3t, which is heavier but has a faster Core i3 processor. But if you want slightly beefier graphics and even longer endurance, this svelte ultraportable will do the trick. Just make sure you get the eight-cell battery.

Ultrathin laptops have gotten very small but they also carry a fairly high price. The MSI X-Slim X370 is a very compact and thin laptop for those that don't mind a little extra bulk and weight but at a much lower cost. Performance is good thanks to the AMD Fusion processor and fast hard drive but this still isn't going to be as quick as traditional 13-inch laptops.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI), is a Taiwan based computer hardware manufacturer since 1986 best known for desktop computer motherboards. MSI also designs and manufactures graphics cards, barebone PCs, notebook computers, networking products, servers, multimedia, consumer electronics, and storage devices. MSI, as most Taiwanese computer manufacturers, sells products on OEM/ODM basis. It also sells products worldwide based on its own brand name "MSI". 13.4: This is a common display format for subnotebooks. Netbooks, UMPC and some subnotebooks have tinier displays. Nevertheless, the majority of standard laptops has a higher format. The advantage of a small display is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes, especially with high resolutions.
